Teachers are always trying to find creative ways, to spice up the holidays to give the students some reprieve from the “same old thing “.
One year Meilani’s class had a “thanksgiving pajama feast”. Ironically, it did give things a beautiful change. It is one of my favorite class parties, to this day.
Although, it is now common knowledge that the history of Thanksgiving has been “misrepresented by early historians”. The reoccurring theme of “sharing & togetherness”, still holds true.
I love that so many Educators use Thanksgiving, as an opportunity to highlight “diversity”. On many occasions, students are encouraged to bring in dishes that represents their culture (to share with their classmates). I also love, that children are usually way more apt to willingly try different foods (since their buddy brought it). It’s a reminder that diversity and sharing never go out of style.
This Thanksgiving is feeling a little more “normal” (since the global pandemic began), than last year’s festivities. Additionally, I believe it is extremely important for us to continue sharing with others & finding meaningful ways to execute “togetherness”.
I think the pandemic has caused, many of us to reflect and redefine what we value and deem important… Our memories & the ways we interact with our fellow man, seem to carry more credence these days. I hope this sentiment continues, because it reminds us what “Thanksgiving” truly signifies! # thanks & giving 🦃🧡🍽 🍁
