The Beauty of the Parent Teacher Alliance

It is that special time of the year when everything “is on like Donkey Kong”. Tests left & right… Project after project due… Parent Teacher Conferences… The list goes on…

As a result, tension starts to ensue & “hurricane season is in full effect.”  That special time when parents & teachers tend to have lively emails, talks & now Zooms.

I recently started teaching again and it reminded me how important it is for parents & teachers to form a solid alliance (despite the inevitable conflicts). The first response is usually “of course it’s important”. However, most of us know that sometimes this ends up being easier said than done.

The most important thing to remember is that the formation of “the alliance” is all in the name of benefiting our little ones. They need us to work together cohesively, so they can reach their full potential.

Below are a few simple suggestions to enable us to create a “healthy safe creative space, that is indicative of innovation & maturation”.

Parents please remember teachers are under tons of added pressure & they need additional support & patience from us as parents.

In return as a teacher, I am reminding myself that I need to allow parents the opportunity to advocate for their child & be a little overbearing at times (as it is my KARMA). Sometimes I must allow the parents to “micromanage” (& make a concerted effort to not take it personal). As this is their job as the caretaker of their “most valuable precious cargo”.

If we all continue to have kindness & tolerance & cooperation at the forefront of our minds, we will all make it through another school year successfully!;)
