Welcome to Candy Lemon Books. I am taking a journey into teaching young readers how to read, but more specifically how to teach sight words. My goal is to write easy to read books that children love with relatable characters. I want to inspire a love of reading at a young age.
My inspiration started when my own kids, boy-girl twins, were born (they are now 9). I wanted to surround them with books so that they would learn to read by osmosis. I really truly thought this was enough.
Fast forward to now, the 3rd Grade!! They have been plucking along in school and doing fine. Then of course, THE PANDEMIC! They have been doing remote learning for OVER A YEAR (but who’s counting… I AM!!). The one silver lining of this past year with them learning at home has been that I get to observe their class work. I finally realized that just surrounding them with books was just NOT ENOUGH! I needed to really work on inspiring them to want to read more. This is tough and we are not there yet! But at least now I know, that we all have to really work at it… and still make it fun!
